INITIAL IDEAS FOR OWN MAGAZINE.
Front cover: cover star, main image, little images around the edge. bold black writing. a charts magazine, not a particular music style/genre.
I have looked at NME's december 2010 edition. It was a special, showing the 50 best albums of 2010. the first advert i came to is pulsar, a watch company, prices for their products range from £50-£200+, this coincides with the target audience, 17-30 year old males who are either students or working. I then came to another advert for canon cameras. Their products are seen as expensive and this refers back to the artistic target audience. I looked at an article on a rapper named "the streets" who started out in 2001 but has become for known in younger people. this is mainly for student readers. the article gives background information on the music artist, and also shows an old edition of nme, featuring "the streets" as a cover star. the next bunch of adverts i come across, is dates and places for tours and concerts/gigs. This coincides with the target audience, who tend to spend free time, or weekends at festivals etc. the article i look at is on the band "the klaxons", the image used, shows the band in action, playing at a gig. there is a use of a quote, outlined in the article. this shows the target audience what the article is generally about. because its a festive time of year, the magazine uses that against devoted nme readers. "nme store" is another way to raise the number of fans and readers, by producing clothes associated with the magazine and the bands they support, target readers are more likely to buy a t shirt or jumper, to support the magazine or the band, to wear at gigs or festivals. the front cover is bright and bold, with dashes of flourescent colours. the signature "nme" title is in the same corner, helping readers recognise when buying. in bold numbers "50" is in the middle of the screen, in the hotspots, the places us as customers are likely to look. well known artists are placed around, artists that the reader will recognise. the contents page is layed out in an edgy form, this catches the eye of the student, who in this day and age tend to look for a more edgy, original style. this all matches with the target audience, it does a good job of catching the customers attention.
